Does Safeway Have Sushi?

Safeway sushi is fresh and available every day for purchase. You can buy it in-store or opt for home delivery. Shoppers who’d rather see it for themselves, but don’t want to enter the store, can opt for curbside pickup. You can get the regular sushi for as low as $4.49 at Safeway, although there are more expensive types. For example, the Spicy Sushi roll costs $10.99.

Safeway sushi also varies in terms of size. You can buy for your consumption or opt for large platters to serve a party or smaller events. For example, the Sapporo platter contains about 24 servings of sushi.

What aisle is Safeway sushi?

Safeway sushi is mainly in the Delicatessen (Deli) department. That’s where you’ll also find pizza, cheesessalads, soups, and specialty foods. The store primarily sells Advanced Fresh Concepts (AFC) Sushi, one of the best Sushi brands.

Like most stores, Safeway’s layouts may vary across locations or change from time to time, so you won’t always find sushi in the same aisle every time. It’s best to ask the store employees for directions when you get there.

If you’d rather try other brands than AFC Sushi, Safeway also sells ingredients for making sushi. So you can buy them and make yours at home.

Store inventory levels may also vary across locations, so some Safeway stores may have more varieties of sushi than others. In the next section, we’ll teach you how to check for sushi availability on Safeway’s website.

How to check sushi availability at Safeway

To find out what kinds of sushi your local Safeway store has in stock, go to the store’s website. Then tap “Change” and your browser will redirect you to the Store Locator page.

Select the closest store to you from the list. You can tell the distance by looking above the “Select” options. If you don’t see any Safeway store that’s close to you, tap on “Use my location“. This will allow the Store Locator to find the nearest Safeway store for you automatically.

Once you’ve done that, enter the keyword “Sushi” into the Search bar. The website will then find all the sushi products available within your location. You can use the search filters on the left side of your screen to find sushi that fits your budget or preference.

How much does Safeway sushi cost?

The price of Safeway sushi varies. If you’re buying the regular-sized packets, those should cost you around $4 to $10. They usually contain up to 10 pieces of sushi, depending on the size you go for.

On the other hand, if you’re buying the large platters fit for a party or large events, those are costlier. For example, the Sapporo platter costs $44, while the Classic sushi platter costs $69. Safeway sushi platters contain 20 to 24 pieces of sushi.

The sushi at Safeway has been pre-made, so you don’t have to worry about preparations. You can eat them after purchase.

Is Safeway sushi safe to eat?

Safeway sushi is safe to eat. Understandably, you may have concerns about eating pre-made sushi from a grocery store, especially since you don’t know the method of preparation used for it. However, while you may think grocery store sushi is dangerous, it’s not as bad as you think.

Safeway has a Responsible Food Policy which the store consistently abides by. The store’s parent company, Albertsons, is dedicated to sourcing only the best quality fish for sushi preparation at its stores. According to Jewel Hunt, the Group Vice President of Bakery and Deli Food Service at Albertsons Companies said that:

We owe it to our customers to make sure each and every product is of the highest quality, and at Albertsons Companies, that includes offering seafood from environmentally responsible sources.

To achieve that, the store will only sell fish and fish-related products at the store if they meet the following requirements:

  • They are labeled Green (representing “best choice”) or Yellow (representing “good alternative”). All fishes will be rated by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program
  • They have been certified to meet an equivalent environmental standard.
  • They have been sourced from fisheries or farms making measurable improvements.

Conclusion

Safeway does have sushi for sale, and you can get them through home delivery. This way, you don’t have to go to the store if you don’t want to. Safeway fulfills customer orders with third-party grocery delivery services like Instacart and DoorDash. These services will bring your sushi to the doorstep of your apartment after you’ve placed your order. Home delivery windows are between 8 AM and 10 PM, so ensure to order sushi between those hours.
