Does Costco Have Curbside Pickup?

Since January of this year, Costco curbside pickup has been undergoing testing. Though the store hasn’t officially announced the launch of the pickup service, the official website indicates that shoppers can choose it as an option.

It’s unclear how long the service will stay in operation as rumors are already surfacing that Costco may discontinue curbside pickup. But for now, it’s available and you can give it a shot before it ends.

However, it isn’t as free as you might think. In this article, we’ll uncover how Costco curbside pickup works and how much it costs.

Does Costco have curbside pickup?

Costco does have curbside pickup, but it’s only available at Costco’s warehouses in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Also, the service isn’t free. You’d need to subscribe for any of Costco’s membership plans to qualify for the warehouse pickup option.

How Costco curbside pickup works

Here’s how Costco curbside pickup works in just three steps.

Step #1: Subscribe for a membership plan

Costco has two major plans;

  • Personal plans
    • Executive: $120/year
    • Gold Star: $60/year
  • Business plans
    • Business executive: $120/year
    • Business: $60/year

You just need to pick a plan and subscribe for it. This will unlock the chance to use the curbside pickup service.

Step #2: Shop online

Costco sells about 2,000 grocery items, all of which are eligible for curbside pickup. You’d have to place a minimum order of $100 for the grocery items before you can use the Costco curbside pickup service.

To place an order, visit the official Costco website and tap the “Shop” option.

Hover your mouse over the “Grocery, Household, Essentials & Pet” option on your laptop. If you’re using a smartphone, tap on it instead. A drop-down list will appear. Click on “Same-day delivery“.

If you have subscribed for a plan by now, you will need to enter your Membership number into the provided box on the next page. You can find your membership number at the back of your Membership card. and tap on Add membership number.

Next, you select “Pickup” and choose the warehouse you’d like to pick up your items from. Once that’s settled, you can begin selecting the grocery items for checkout.

Step #3: Pick up your order

After placing an order online, the details should be processed within one hour and ready for pickup. You will get a notification from Costco when it’s time and instructions on how to check-in at the warehouse.

The next step is to drive to your selected Costco warehouse. Costco has a parking space reserved for warehouse pickups, so you can park there instead of the regular parking lots.

Once you’ve notified the store as instructed by the earlier notification, a Costco employee will then approach your vehicle with the items you have ordered for.

Similar to Walmart’s curbside policies, Costco is against tipping. So you don’t have to slip extra cash into the employees hands if you don’t want to.

And that’s it! You’ve just learnt how Costco curbside pickup works.

Note: Costco charges a $10 pickup fee on each pickup order or request you place online.

Can you order Costco online without membership?

Costco has amazing product offers, but unlike your usual online store, it forces you to commit to a membership plan before being able to purchase anything. However, this doesn’t mean non-members are completely cut off from the online shopping experience.

You can order items online without a membership plan. But the con attached to this is that there is a 5% surcharge.

The good news is that window shopping isn’t out of the question. So you can walk into a Costco warehouse and take a look at what they have in store before deciding to shop with Costco. The obvious downside is that you can’t buy anything. So if you see anything you like, you’d just have to subscribe for any of the plans we listed above.

It may seem absurd spending such hefty fees when you don’t plan to shop that often with Costco in a year. One alternative most Costco shoppers try to avoid those plans is to find a Costco member and get them to make purchases on your behalf.
